Jonathan stops PDP’s bid to contest Buhari’s victory

President Goodluck Jonathan may have prevailed on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to challenge President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s victory  in last Saturday’s election.

Instead of planning a case for the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, the Presidency will raise a Transition Committee on Tuesday, a source told The Nation yesterday.

Vice President-elect Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is likely to head the All Progressives Congress (APC) team which will join the committee ahead of the May 29 transition.

Ministers have started preparing their handover notes, it was also learnt.

It was gathered that although some PDP stalwarts wanted Buhari’s victory challenged at the tribunal, the President thought otherwise.

The party stalwarts, it was said, believe that some irregularities in some states are strong enough to upturn the final results of the election, which was hailed at home and abroad as substantially credible.

Jonathan, it was learnt, said it made no sense —contesting Buhari’s victory— after he had conceded defeat.

It was learnt that the PDP leaders referred  to the electoral scenario in  Ekiti where  the All Progressives Congress(APC) went to tribunal  despite the acceptance of defeat by ex-Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The President, however, stood his ground that he would rather stand by his statesmanship attitude than going to tribunal.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The President has prevailed on PDP to drop plans to go to tribunal against Buhari. He said he wants his word to be his bond, having been applauded by the international community.

“At a point, Jonathan said ‘I don’t believe in post-election petition at tribunal because it distracts the incoming administration’.

“He also said Nigeria must emulate other nations where once the presidential poll is lost and won, the new government must not be distracted with election petitions.

“He told party leaders that he was not interested in going to the tribunal. It is now left for PDP leaders to heed his advice.

“So as at Thursday, the government’s position is that the PDP should not go to tribunal.”

Stating the PDP’s position on the elections in a statement yesterday, Chairman Adamu Mu’azu, said:   “We have received reports of serious irregularities that characterized the conduct of the election and we shall channel our protests to the appropriate quarters in line with our profound respect for the rule of law and democratic ethos.”

He did not say whether the party would go to the tribunal but added:  “What is paramount to us is the survival of our democracy, the unity, peace and progress of our dear nation and the happiness of all our people. Nigeria is bigger than any political party, individual or group and her overall interest must be our priority at all times.”

The President in 2010 at the 15th summit of the African Union (AU) in Kampala, Uganda described post-election litigation as a major distraction to governance.

Jonathan said: “It is inconvenient to already be in office and be thinking about election litigation.
“The essence of the immunity clause in the constitution is that if a president or a governor takes an oath of office, he should sit down and concentrate on the job and when he leaves office, he could be prosecuted for any offence.

“But because of the way we conduct our elections, the president who sits in office is still battling and being distracted with election issues, and it affects us.”

The transition committee is likely to be constituted next week.

Another source added: “The Presidency is working on a seamless transition from Jonathan’s administration to Buhari’s. The details are being worked out.”

“I think by next week, the picture of the transition committee will emerge. The government is working early on the transition because it involves a lot of work.

“The APC team will have to collaborate with the committee and ask questions if there are grey areas.”

Meanwhile, Ministers have started compiling their handover notes, which will be part of the integral aspect of the report of the transition committee.

U.S. Secretary of State Kerry thumbs up Jonathan, Buhari

United States Secretary of State John Kerry yesterday congratulated President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
He also lauded President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said: “The United States congratulates the people of Nigeria and the Nigerian Government on historic and largely peaceful elections the weekend of March 28.  We especially applaud all voters who showed patience and demonstrated their commitment to participate in the democratic process.
“The United States commends Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its Chairman, Attahiru Jega, on the generally orderly vote, on the use of technology such as card readers to increase the credibility and transparency of the electoral process, and on prompt communication of the results.  While we note reports of logistical problems, such incidents did not undermine the overall outcome of the election.
“In January, I traveled personally to Nigeria and met with both President Jonathan and now President-Elect Buhari.  At that time, I emphasized that for the United States, Nigeria is an increasingly important strategic partner and that Nigeria has a critical role to play in the security and prosperity of this continent and beyond.
“I also said that it was imperative that these elections are an improvement over past elections and that they need to set a new standard for this democracy.  That means that Nigerians needed to not only reject violence but actually promote peace.
“We laud both President Jonathan and General Buhari for their public commitments to the Abuja Accord signed in January and reaffirmed March 26, respecting the official results, and encouraging their supporters to do the same.  We commend President Jonathan for his years of service and for having acted in the best interest of his country.  We welcome President Jonathan’s calls for unity and calm during this transition period.
“Finally, we extend our congratulations to President-elect Buhari.  The United States reiterates its commitment to working with the newly elected government that emerges from this democratic process.”

17 year old rejects Duke's rejection letter

 Never say die.

This is a story that it is so amazing it cannot be passed without taking notice of  its reality in happening.

This seventeen year old truly rejected a school's rejection of his admission into freshman.

The applicant known by name as Siobhan O'Dell refused to take no for an answer. See for yourself.

O'Dell posted the letter on her Tumblr page three days ago and it has been trending on social media websites ever since. It's a move that seemed to resonate with college applicants around the country as they await acceptance or rejection letters.

"This year I have been fortunate enough to receive rejection letters from the best and brightest universities in the country," O'Dell says in the letter. "With a pool of letters so diverse and accomplished I was unable to accept reject letters I would have been able to only several years ago."
In the formal language of a typical rejection letter, O'Dell goes on to inform Duke that she will be attending the esteemed university in the fall, like it or not.

"Despite Duke's outstanding success in rejecting previous applicants, you simply did not meet my qualifications. Therefore, I will be attending Duke University's 2015 freshmen class."

O'Dell also posted a response she received from Duke's admissions department to her reaction the school's rejection.

The department notes that O'Dell could appeal the decision, but says reversals are rare.
"If you choose to appeal, we welcome your request, but I do not wish to raise unreasonable expectations on your part," the university writes.

lil Wayne HIV/AIDS +ve

Lil Wayne has confirmed that he is HIV/AIDS Positive after some test were carried out on him. The United States of America based Hip Hop Rapper and fans favourite, Lil Wayne, shared this information on his official twitter handle that he tested positive for HIV/
AIDS..

It was an unbelieveable statement and shock to many, especially his fans all over the globe when they heard this. But Lil Wayne later announced that he has accepted the outcome and that he is
ready to live with it and that he is not going to spread it to others but rather keep it to himself until his time come.
Now, the question is; where did he get it from? According to
rumours that he was going out with Nicki Minaj, if this were true, then could Nicki also be positive and be hiding it since she has not announced it officially?

EBOLA (Messenger of what?)

Doctor Ribner, the leader of the team of professionals in medicine that took care of the two americans Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol who were declared Ebola free and released after undergoing treatment for the virus they were affected with while working in West Africa.
Which brings about the validity of this report.

Dr. Ribner gave the account that the Ebola survivors are totally immuned against the deadly virus by building antibodies which helps fight the sophisticated virus.

This is what the medical doctor has to say; "In general, the finding is it’s basically
like being immunised-it would be unusual to get
infection with the same strain. We are still evaluating
that in our two patients”.

The medical doctor made it known to all that his assertions are quite exact and that there are two outpatients on evaluation to help buttress his point.

He (Dr. Ribner) said “They have
agreed to undergo additional testing so we can
better understand immunity to Ebola virus. We are
meeting with them periodically”.
“What we found in general is that among our Ebola
patients, because of the amount of fluid they lost
through diarrhoea and vomiting, they had a lot of
electrolyte abnormalities. And so replacing that with
standard fluids without monitoring will not do a very
good job of replacing things like sodium and
potassium. In both of our patients we found those
levels to be very low.
“One of the messages we will be sending back to our
colleagues is even if you don’t have the equipment to
measure these levels, do be aware this is occurring
when patients are having a lot of body fluid loss.”
Immunity: “We are still evaluating that in our two
patients. Cross-protection is not quite as robust.
There are five strains of Ebola viruses. Even though
that data is not great, the feeling is there is potential
for being infected if you go to a different part of
Africa and get exposed to a different strain.
“We are going to be following those two patients as
outpatients, and as part of our evaluation they have
agreed to undergo additional testing so we can
better understand immunity to Ebola virus. We are
meeting with them periodically”, Ribner explained.

Bringing to remembrance that America’s
Ebola vaccine, Zmapp, has been claimed to have cured lab monkeys that have
been infected with the Ebola virus disease.

Indian Woman versus Leopard

This is a true life story of an indian woman who faced death in the aspect of a leopard. Did she survive? Read on

The woman known as Kamla Devi at the age of 56 was fetching water from Uttarakhand state when suddenly a leopard appeared from a nearby bush and pounced on her. All she had with her was a sickle and spade (due to the fact that she was going to her farm) with which she fought the leopard.

The woman (Devi) was carrying water she fetched from a canal to a field of hers near a village known as Sem Nauti in Rudraprayag district when she was attacked on Sunday.

She claimed to have been able to smash some of the leopards teeth after the life battle.

This is what Devi has to say after the battle "I thought I was dead but I did not lose patience and courage.”

“I fought head on with it for almost half an hour. Then I came to know it was dead,” she told reporters after the life battle from where she was hospitalised in the nearby town of Srinagar Garhwal.

The doctors were quite actually very surprised at her survival and had this to say,

"She has two fractures on the right hand and one on the left. She also has deep injuries on her head and legs. There are bite marks all over her body,” said Dr Abdul Rahul, who has been treating her.

"All this happened in a thirty minutes duration. Its a 30minutes battles of life and death. One must occur but it depends on who gets what. Devi got life and the leopard got death."

Her condition is stabilising now.

5 sleep mistakes you may have made last night

You’ve run yourself down and desperately need a night of quality Zzzs. But when you hit the pillow, your mind is racing, you’re tossing and turning, and you wake up feeling sluggish all over again.
We may not like to admit it, but having trouble sleeping may be a result of what we do – or don’t do – during the day and before bed.
Dr. Carol Ash, the director for Sleep Medicine at Meridian Health, reveals the top five sleep mistakes and how you can fix them, so you wake up feeling rested, revitalized and ready for the day.

1. Eating too much protein before bed
Avoid eating calorie-dense food, especially protein, right before bed. Protein takes longer to digest, making your body work hard while you’re trying to sleep. “I recommend that people have dinner for breakfast,” says Dr. Ash. A larger meal in the morning will you give you the energy you need for the day and allow your body to focus on sleeping at night.

2. Taking a hot shower before bed
Your body’s core temperature should drop around bedtime to signal it’s time to sleep. If you take a hot shower right before bed, you’re silencing that signal. Don’t want to give up that steamy shower? Take it at least 1.5 to 2 hours before sleeping.

3. Bad posture during the day
Improved posture sets the stage for good sleep. Stand up straight during the day, and sleep on your back to minimize muscle aches and pains. Use a foam roller five minutes before bed. Place it between your shoulder blades and lie on it to stretch your back muscles. This will increase flexibility and reinforce a better posture.

4. Thinking exercise interferes with sleep
The National Sleep Foundation 2013 poll showed exercise any time of day will improve the quality of your sleep.

5. Tossing and turning thinking at least I am getting sleep
This only increases anxiety, making it even harder to fall asleep. Get out of bed and only return when you’re tired. This stops the brain from associating the bedroom with worry.

A chance to meet Brad Pitt for $10

Groupon's hottest deal ever: A chance to meet Brad Pitt for $10

    April 18, 2014 at 9:11 AM ET

Great dining and activity deals are expected from Groupon, but a chance to meet an A-list actor? Now that's an option too. Brad Pitt has teamed with the deal-of-the-day site to raise money for his Make It Right organization.

For a mere $10, fans and philanthropists can enter for a chance to win the opportunity to meet the "World War Z" star. The prize includes two VIP tickets to the Make It Right Gala (held May 17 in New Orleans), the chance for a group meet-and-greet with Pitt, airfare and hotel for two, transportation to and a private tour of the Ninth Ward site, and the option to volunteer for a day at the site.

Bruno Mars and Kings of Leon will be performing at the gala.

Make It Right was founded by the actor in 2007 to build safe, green homes and buildings for communities in need. He launched the group after visiting New Orleans two years after Hurricane Katrina hit, when he saw how little had been done to rebuild the hardest hit area of the city, the Lower Ninth Ward.

For those with bigger savings accounts and who want a guaranteed opportunity to meet Pitt, Groupon is offering the "epic deal." A $25,000 donation gets the buyer everything in the contest, plus airfare upgraded to first class and a hotel suite. Only nine epic deals are available. According to the website, $22,500 of each epic deal will go to Make It Right.

Pitt is the latest A-list actor to offer fans a chance to meet him to benefit charity. George Clooney, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon all recently offered themselves up for dates in order to raise money for the organizations closest to their hearts.

Worshippers drink Cow urine to cure cancer, diabetes, stomach problems & baldness (Must Read)

According to DailyMail, the Hindu believers regard the cow as a holy animal and say her urine has divine healing properties. However, they insist that the cow whose urine one has to drink, should be a virgin – she must not have delivered a calf. Also, the urine is to be collected just before sunrise – that’s the urine that has the best effect.

They also claim that drinking cow pee is the only effective solution for treating baldness.

    See photos below:
Jairam Singhal, 42, who has been drinking cow pee for over a decade was keen to testify to its health benefits:

‘I had diabetes, but ever since I have started drinking cow urine, my diabetes levels have been under control. Someone told me drinking cow urine is good for health. We have
had cows here for over 12 years now, so first thing in the morning we take cow urine and drink it.’

For the cow owners, Singhal, they are excited at the amount of people that come to their ranch to drink urine. He said:

‘Lots of people come here. And of late, the numbers have been rising. We all gather in the morning and drink fresh urine that Mother cow offers us. Just a few years ago, there would hardly be anyone interested in taking cow urine from our shelter. But today lots of people come to our cow shelter. There are cancer patients sometimes – they want to see the benefits of cow urine. It is just a matter of time before people realise the utility of cow urine.

Cristiano Ronaldo to buy Real Madrid physios new cars after Ballon d’Or win

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly reward the club’s physiotherapy team by buying each of them a brand new car of their choice following his Ballon d’Or win.

The Portuguese forward promised Madrid’s physiotherapists that if he won the Ballon d’Or, they would each get a new car, as a present for helping keep him fit in the last 12 months.

According to Metro.co.uk, many think Ronaldo edged Lionel Messi for the prize because of the Argentine’s recent injury trouble, which has seen him miss the last few weeks of action.

Meanwhile, Manchester United ace Rio Ferdinand had been saved from running naked on the street after Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or.

Are You in a Panic Relationship? 5 Signs You're Only Dating Him Because You Settled

I was less than enthused about the last person I dated, but could not put my finger on why. He was nice, smart, attractive and I had enough fun with him, but something wasn’t right. At first, I chalked my indifference up to a personal tendency towards being overly critical. I had shoved off the detritus of my last long-term relationship and was feeling open to new things and experiences. Dating him felt like something I should be doing -- or at least trying -- so I did. My enthusiasm never peaked, though. It merely flatlined at a “I guess this is good enough” level for six months. It was only after we broke up that I was able to identify what was really going on: I was in a panic relationship.

A panic relationship is one that is formed by reaction as opposed to desire. Perhaps you meet someone, and you’re in a delicate emotional state, emerging from a long, drawn out breakup. Perhaps the future looms ahead of you, with a vision of yourself greying slowly into spinsterhood. Maybe you’ve decided that you are ready to drop your mantle of shunning new experiences and will let someone in, completely and totally. Or maybe it’s fall and the prospect of romping through foliage is enticing. So you do it, you commit. You go on some dates, you settle into a routine -- and then what?

We can argue that at the heart of it, every relationship is a panic relationship, operating out of the innate desire to stave off loneliness. Humans are social animals, and this extends to every aspect of personal interactions, from being nice to your coworkers to forming a necessary but taciturn communication with your bodega guy. Every relationship has its ups and downs, because nothing is perfect. However, once the dust settles, and the shiny newness wears off a little, it’s essential to take stock of how you really feel.

We want to please people, and we want to have faith that relationships will work out, because despite how much you don’t believe it, to be in a successful relationship with another human being proves to society that you are a functioning adult, capable of loving and being loved. Listen to me; there’s nothing wrong with you if you find yourself in a situation that feels as perfunctory as paying taxes or calling your mother. Here are some key signs that you’re panic dating someone:

    1. Your time together is an obligation, not a desire.

I enjoyed spending time with my ex, but every time we were together, I was casting glances at my phone and sending clandestine texts from the bathroom of bars. At the core, relationships are a set of desires. You want to be with someone, so you are. You want to go to the movies with this person, so you do. You want to spend a day in bed with this person, so you do, with no other desire to be anywhere else. The minute you wake up in the morning and find yourself wishing you had the bed to yourself so you could just read and play Candy Crush, do what you can to get out. I’m not saying that all mornings should be killer sex and secret smiles under the sheets, but you should wake up not silently wishing the person next to you would find their things, get up and leave.

    2. You are reluctant to address the person as your partner.

It’s never easy to have “the conversation” with someone you’ve just started dating, because it’s scary and new and it puts you and your messy, weird feelings out there, quivering quietly on a table. When my ex and I had “the talk,” it was three in the morning on the walk home after my birthday. Standing under a streetlight, in my stocking feet, holding a pair of boots, I watched as he told me he wanted me to be his girlfriend. I was drunk, I was tired, I was uneasy, but I agreed, out of an attempt to end the conversation and get to bed, and because I felt like it was something I should try. Here’s a hint: You should feel happy to be in this relationship! Having the “are we or aren’t we” conversation should be something both of you want. Once you’re booed up, you should be happy! If you’ve been dating someone for a period of time and keep referring to them as “the person you’re f**king,” then you need to consider getting out. It’s better for the both of you.

    3. You speak more negatively than positively about this person.

Infatuation often invades your mind space, causing almost everything you mention to friends, passers-by and pets to be about this person that you’ve just let into your life. Take stock of what you’re saying -- is it positive or negative? When I heard myself delivering a 15 minute monologue on how my ex’s habit of singing in public made me want to die, I realized that I couldn’t remember the last time I had anything nice to say about him. There’s a smug satisfaction in complaining about a relationship, because, even if you don’t realize it, you’re taking a small comfort in the fact that you have something to complain about. Recognize this feeling, acknowledge it, but then examine the words that you’re actually saying. If you find yourself saying things that are more negative than positive. That’s not a good thing.

    4. You’ve considered cheating.

Let’s be clear. It’s perfectly natural to imagine yourself sleeping with people other than the person you’re currently sleeping with. Celebrities, that hot dude you see on the train on your way to work or even old flames -- all these impulses are perfectly natural, completely normal and perfectly fine to have. Monogamy is not a comfortable state of being, so it’s healthy to imagine what it’d be like to be with someone else. These imagined romps are much different than actually following through. My last relationship was such a dud that I spent about a week or two telling friends that I’d sleep with my ex if he came into town and it wouldn’t “really count”. That’s an issue.

    5. You can’t imagine much of a future.

I’m not saying that when  you start dating someone, you should take to scribbling your names together in your spare time. I think a good sign in a relationship is being able to envision past the next two weeks. If you can’t see yourself making plans in the future, for anything, be it a concert or a brief trip out of town or really, anything that involves planning on your end, then that’s a sign, too. My ex got us tickets to a concert for Christmas, and all I remember thinking to myself is that it was mighty presumptuous of him to assume that we’d still be together in February. We had been dating for 5 months.

To know whether or not you’re in a panic relationship is to know yourself very well, and often it’s not clear until it’s all over. Keep in mind -- all relationships don’t have to work, and it’s not necessarily something that’s your fault. Be aware of yourself, your feelings, and know that sometimes, a relationship is not the best answer. Embrace being alone, take a minute for yourself and approach a relationship with the best version of you.

Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Fallon take a 'Run' at Chris Christie traffic scandal

    Jan. 15, 2014 at 9:20 AM ET

Soon-to-be "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon busted out his musical comedy chops once again on "Late Night" Tuesday, and this time, he had a little fun at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's expense.

The 2016 GOP presidential hopeful has been facing scrutiny after reports tied one of his aides to the George Washington Bridge traffic snarl after lanes were closed last fall in retaliation against a Democratic mayor who didn't endorse Christie's re-election.

The late-night host, dressed as an '80s-era Bruce Springsteen, reworked the rocker's classic hit "Born to Run" and delivered a slowed down, acoustic tune with lyrics from the working man's point of view.

"In the day we sweat it out on the streets stuck in traffic on the GWB," Fallon-as-Springsteen sang. "They shut down the tollbooths of glory because we didn't endorse Christie. ... We gotta get out but we can't. We're stuck in Gov. Chris Christie's Fort Lee, N.J., traffic jam!"

Midsong, the real Boss himself — also dressed in his signature '80s look — joined the comedian in the reworking of his hit. "The press conference went on and on, it was longer than one of my own damn shows," Springsteen crooned. "Someday, governor, I don't know when, this will all end but 'til then you're killing the working man who's stuck in Gov. Chris Christie's Fort Lee, N.J., traffic jam!"

The governor gave a two-hour press conference after the scandal broke. Springsteen himself made headlines in 2012 after giving his first four-hour concert, which happened in Helsinki, Finland.

One thing viewers likely noticed during the Sprinsteen-Fallon jam, thanks to the sleeveless denim shirts, were The Boss' well-toned arms. They certainly didn't escape the comedian's notice.

"We had a little push-up contest going backstage. We had to get the look right," Springsteen said of the pair's performance outfit.

"I was doing it because, I didn't tell you, 'cause your arms are so jacked, I'm like, 'I got my wimpy comedian arms!'" Fallon laughed. "I did, like, 100 push-ups! ... You out-push-upped me! I just broke down! You beat me! You killed me!"

Fallon wasn't the only admiring The Boss' arms.

"When we showed that video here on the set for the first time, all the girls could say is, 'Check out Bruce's arms. Guns!' " TODAY host Matt Lauer joked Wednesday. He also called the Springsteen-Fallon performance "so creative" and "so clever."

Springsteen just released his 18th studio album, "High Hopes," Tuesday.

Beyonce: Women must 'demand' equal opportunities

    Jan. 13, 2014 at 5:51 PM ET

Beyonce Knowles-Carter wrote the following essay for "The Shriver Report," published in partnership with Center for American Progress and focusing on women in economic peril. Maria Shriver is reporting on these challenges with her TODAY series, #DoingItAll.

We need to stop buying into the myth about gender equality. It isn’t a reality yet. Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes. But unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change. Men have to demand that their wives, daughters, mothers, and sisters earn more—commensurate with their qualifications and not their gender. Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect.

Humanity requires both men and women, and we are equally important and need one another. So why are we viewed as less than equal? These old attitudes are drilled into us from the very beginning. We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.

We have a lot of work to do, but we can get there if we work together. Women are more than 50 percent of the population and more than 50 percent of voters. We must demand that we all receive 100 percent of the opportunities.
